VOCAL COACHING

I am passionate about the free and full expression of the unique, authentic voice.

I believe that the exploration of the voice is a path toward self-discovery, communication and celebration.

I affirm that anyone can develop their ability to sing, regardless of their musical background or perceived ability.

METHOD

With a background in Somatic Voicework and Functional Voice Training, I design training programs specific to the needs and goals of each individual that combine vocal technique, ear training and performance coaching.

Together we work to develop efficient breath technique, strong and healthy vocal folds, balanced vocal registration, and the experiential awareness to apply these skills to artistic musical expression. We work on the mat, at the piano and on and off the mic.

Technical skill and physical awareness lead to greater confidence in performance, and the ability to communicate story and emotion. This is how you touch your audience.

I work with any level of experience, any style, from performing artists to beginner singers. Singing lessons are fun, I promise! Here are some of the skills we can work on together:

 *Vocal Technique
*Mic Technique
*Vocal Hygiene
*Performance Coaching
*Songwriting Coaching
*Self-Accompaniment (piano or guitar)
*Working with a Band

LOCATION

I am based in Nelson BC, Canada. I offer limited private sessions online via Zoom and travel internationally to teach workshops.

TESTIMONIALS

"One word: Attuned. Emily is warm, easy to be with, and an excellent listener. She is adept at creating a plan to meet my needs and wants in the moment. She is a skilled instructor, with a sophisticated body of work to pull from and it shows. In our sessions I have felt deeply heard and encouraged in a genuinely motivating way. I recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone, from beginner to those looking to go deeper into their vocal work." - Ocea

"Emily is the best vocal coach! She is really good at hearing where your technique can be improved and suggesting helpful exercises.  Since starting lessons with Emily, I have seen improvement basically every week.  Emily is very positive and her lessons are fun!" - Geoff

"During the months I spent training with Emily, I noticed a drastic improvement in my vocal skills. She is adept at pinpointing areas for improvement, and draws from her large repertoire of vocal exercises and techniques to specifically target these areas. She is also familiar with a large range of genres, and is always open to discovering a new song with you – whether it be pop or jazz or folk! Moreover, my singing lessons with Emily are always a fun time. She creates a comfortable learning environment that makes me feel like I can truly express my singing voice. Emily is truly an amazing vocal coach, and I cannot recommend her enough!" - Grace

"I was Emily's student for around a year and of all the music teachers I have had I really enjoyed her approach quite honestly the most! Her attention to detail and focus on what could be worked on caught me by surprise every time. We had many moments of genuine musical fun and many break through moments where the guidance she gave me plus practising really payed off. I highly recommend Emily. I would still be taught by her if I had not moved back to London. In other words you wont regret it!" - Tom

"Thank you for such an amazing year of choir and for helping us to move our community online when we weren't able to meet in person anymore. You are a wonderful facilitator and teacher." - Jordy

"Emily! Thank you so much for all of your leadership and creativity during the past two years. You've challenged me to be a more confident singer and your arrangements stay in my head all week long. I truly appreciate your efforts in adapting the choir to be virtual and have a digital performance - it has been a great source of comfort and normalcy during these very uncertain times. You are much appreciated!" - Justine
